Today, Dr. Edwards’ campaign premiered its new video, titled “I’m There,” that shares the good work that Dr. Edwards has done for the people of eastern Kentucky and holds Congressman Hal Rogers accountable for abandoning the people of the Fifth Congressional District and their values.

The video highlights Dr. Edwards’ career of service and dedication to the people of eastern Kentucky including:

  • Twenty-five years as surgeon-on-call for most of the region.
  • Five years of service in a Veterans Administration hospital caring for wounded warriors.
  • Starting a drug addiction treatment center to help those affected by meth and fentanyl recover.
  • Creating a foundation that builds group homes so that mothers undergoing drug addiction treatment can be reunited with their children.

The video also educates voters on how Hal Rogers has betrayed them and their values:

  • Giving Taxpayer Money to Abortionists. Hal Rogers has voted repeatedly for budgets that give billions in taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. The most recent votes occurred in the 115th Congress (H.R. 1635), 116th Congress (H.R. 133), and the 117th Congress (H.R. 2471).
  • Suspending the Debt Ceiling and Agreeing to $4 Trillion in New Spending. Hal Rogers sided with Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and the majority of Democrats instead of with conservative, fiscally responsible Republicans, when he voted for the so-called “Fiscal Responsibility Act” on May 31, 2023 (H.R. 3746).  According to Heritage Action, “this bill suspends the debt ceiling until 2025, enabling President Biden and a divided Congress to generate an estimated $4 trillion in new federal debt.”
  • Voted Against Balancing the Budget and Repealing Obamacare. In 2018, the Republican Study Committee introduced a bill that would reduce the growth of spending so the nation could balance the budget within six years. While conservative Republicans voted for it, Hal Rogers joined all of the Democrats and voted against it. (115th Congress, House Amendment 455 to House C.R. 71.)
  • Voted for a Federal Red Flag Law. Hal joined Nancy Pelosi in supporting the NDA Act of 2021 which contained a Red Flaw law allowing the government to violate the 2nd Amendment and seize the personal firearms of servicemembers without due process. According to Gun Owners of America, “This is just the foot in the door. If Nancy Pelosi gets this into the military code, then it becomes the ‘precedent’ for enforcing gun confiscation against the rest of the population.” (117th Congress, H.R. 4350.)
  • Voted for Ending Limits on Migrant Workers. During a committee markup, Hal Rogers voted in favor of legislation that expands the 2A guest worker program from seasonal to year-round jobs, eliminated the annual cap on returning workers, and expanded nonagricultural visas in perpetuity. According to NumbersUSA, “Probably the greatest damage to the wages and working conditions of American workers comes from foreign nationals who are specifically imported to compete with Americans for jobs. The federal government has done almost nothing to ensure that workers go back home after their work visas expire.” (118th Congress, H.R. 4367).
  • Voted $113 Billion for Ukraine at the Expense of the Open US Border and Fentanyl Crisis. Rather than protecting America’s borders, Hal Rogers voted five times to instead send money to protect Ukraine’s borders. (117th Congress, H.R. 2471, H.R. 7691, H.R. 6833, H.R. 2617, and 118th Congress, H.R. 4365 Amendment 369.)
  • Hal Rogers lives in a luxury condo in Northern Virginia. According to property records, Hal Rogers has owned a condo in a luxury high-rise building in Arlington, Virginia, since 1996.
